Longleaf Savanna Field Trip

Walk a fire-maintained longleaf pine savanna at peak summer bloom and meet its carnivorous plants.

Summer is prime time in the longleaf savanna, when wiregrass flats fill with wildflowers and sundews glisten in the wet seeps. A preserve naturalist will explain how fire keeps this ecosystem open and astonishingly diverse.

Expect flat but sandy walking in full sun — bring a hat, water, and sun protection. We’ll move slowly and stop often to look closely at the small wonders underfoot.
